As far as city buses are concerned, there are three types of buses. Okay, this is the three types of buses from a different perspective to my previous blog post and may apply to regular cities or trolley buses.
The three types of city buses are:
Rigid buses- These are regular buses which are one piece and one segment and one story long. This is what you typically think of when you think of a bus. This can apply to regular buses and trolley buses
Articulated buses- These buses are two pieces long and the two segments long and connected by a piece of rubber. These are known as “bendy buses” in Australia and the back section is usually shorter than the front section. There are regular and trolley articulated buses. There are also bi-articulated buses which have three segments and are connected by two pieces of rubber. Bi-articulated buses almost always operate on BRT networks.
Double Decker Buses- These are rigid buses but two stories tall. There are two decks or floors. The boarding and alighting happens on the first deck with a stair case leading to the second deck. There are double decker regular buses, but the only double decker trolley buses currently in operation are in Hong Kong
