The Use of News Papers

Newspapers are a dying commodity. The newspaper industry is tragically struggling to stay alive. However, whilst the newspapers are struggling to stay alive, people who rely on the secondary usage of newspapers are also desperately searching for alternatives. For example, newspapers are used to line bird cages. Without newspapers, how will bird-cages be lined? Newspapers are also used to serve as fuel in fire places. In order to light a fire place, paper is needed, and newspapers are the best form of paper to use for this purpose. This also applies to charcoal barbeques. Also, fish and chips in some places are wrapped in newspaper (though, because of hygiene reasons, they need their own special newspapers). My question is therefore this- if newspapers shifted their target market to people who own bird cages, people who light fire places/bon fires/no-gas barbeques and fish and chip restaurants, and shifted to providing news as secondary source of their revenue, would this do anything to save the industry? And has anyone in the industry thought of this? That’s all. Sorry for the short post
